Facilities
Museum and Gallery Studies students have their own space within the School of Art History, comprising a Study Centre with networked computer facilities and information resources, and a work-room for practical project and exhibition work.
University Collections
A particular benefit for students is access to the University's extensive and varied museum collections. Many of the projects and exhibitions undertaken by students make use of these collections, which include items dating back to the early days of the University from its founding in 1411.
They illustrate its history, teaching practices and associated personalities through archives, fine art and photography, furniture, equipment and specimens.

Library
The Museum and Gallery Studies section of the University Library has recently been augmented by the reference library of the Scottish Museums Council, which gives our students unrivalled access to a comprehensive range of museum books, reports and periodicals.

Local museums
The town of St Andrews itself has a variety of museums and heritage centres and is well placed for visiting museums and galleries in Anstruther, Crail, Ceres, Dundee, Edinburgh, Newburgh, Perth, and other towns. Museums normally visited during the course include all those in St Andrews, Perth Museum and Art Gallery, the National Galleries and National Museums of Scotland and City Art Centre in Edinburgh, the Scottish Fisheries Museum at Anstruther, Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre and Discovery Point in Dundee.
We also enjoy close co-operation with other organisations such as the Museums Gallery Scotland, Historic Scotland and the National Trust for Scotland, which provides valuable input from a variety of people working in the sector.
