Given the size of its membership, the Senatus Academicus devolves most of its business to a more streamlined Academic Council. This decision was taken primarily in the interests of more efficient academic government. The maximum number of members of Academic Council, appointed and elected, was agreed as 45.
Academic Council makes decisions regarding all education matters, including the semester system, marking scales and teaching regulations. It is chaired by the Principal as president of Senate. Many routine learning and teaching matters are initially progressed by the learning and teaching committee, which meets prior to each Academic Council meeting and which advises on appropriate polices and best practice.
