Teachers Together Conference

St Andrews has long recognised the importance of fostering partnerships between schools and local education authorities to ensure that relevant, accurate and timely guidance is given to all pupils when preparing to study at university. One of the ways in which we achieve this is through our long established Teachers Together conference.

Teachers Together is a partnership between Scottish state schools, local education authorities and the University of St Andrews. The partnership is designed to encourage links between schools and higher education to ensure that relevant, accurate and timely guidance is given to pupils when preparing to study at university. University staff also have an opportunity to hear about subject developments in schools which may influence attainment and achievement levels.

Teachers Together has become a key event in bringing together teachers from all sectors of education and been the catalyst for forming long lasting partnerships.

Our Teachers Together conference aims to:

  • bring together teachers from all sectors of education.
  • provide an opportunity for University staff to hear first-hand about subject developments in schools which may influence attainment and achievement levels.

In previous years our conferences have been centred on contemporary topics such as Sustainability, Curriculum for Excellence and Outreach Activities.

Teachers Together is primarily aimed at teachers and advisors in state schools across Scotland and those responsible for delivering the Curriculum for Excellence. Colleagues who have an interest in attending this conference from schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are encouraged to contact us for more information.

Through joint funding from the Sutton Trust and the University of St Andrews all aspects of the conference, including your accommodation costs and meals, are provided free of charge. The conference is completely free and the University will also cover delegate travel expenses. In addition we can contribute to the cost of providing one day’s full classroom cover to allow key staff members to attend. We can also cater for delegates who wish to attend on a daily basis and take part in the sessions specific to their requirements.

The conference has been designed to provide not only subject-specific knowledge, but also guidance on how to prepare pupils applying to university.  The conference will also allow staff to experience what it might be like for their pupils to attend summer schools such as the Sutton Trust Summer School.
