John Burnet Hall

John Burnet Hall is a small, traditional residence perfectly located close to the centre of town and is adjacent to the Old Course.

Hall information

John Burnet Hall offers both catered standard and catered en suite accommodation. Standard rooms are located along corridors in the main building while most en suite rooms are located in the annexe. Each corridor contains a number of showers and bathrooms, and also includes communal kitchens for students to make their own light snacks in. 

The majority of rooms are single bedrooms, but there are 33 shared standard bedrooms for undergraduates to choose from as well. Find out about sharing at St Andrews.

For undergraduate students, John Burnet Hall has:

  • 42 single standard rooms with single-size beds
  • 33 shared standard rooms with single-size beds
  • 36 single en suite rooms with single-size beds.

Location

John Burnet Hall is conveniently located between town centre and the North Haugh. It is a short distance from local amenities, both Arts and Science buildings, the golf courses, and the beautiful West Sands beach.

What is John Burnet Hall like?

As the smallest of the University’s undergraduate residences, John Burnet Hall offers a close-knit community. The student committee is active and works alongside the residence staff to organise regular events such as:

  • film nights
  • sporting events
  • hall balls
  • barbeques
  • beach games
  • formal meals
  • wine and cheese receptions
  • quizzes
  • garden parties.

There is also a hall garden, where residents can grow fruit and vegetables.

Facilities

John Burnet Hall offers various facilities for students to use for studying or socialising. There are also communal kitchens which students can use to make their own light snacks.

Common rooms

John Burnet Hall has a common room with a piano and a data projector as well as a TV room. Students are welcome to use the common rooms to relax and unwind.

Computer room

John Burnet Hall has an IT suite with six computers which students are able to access at all hours.

Laundry

The laundry room contains three washers and three dryers which are card-operated. You can buy a card from the card dispensers at the entrace to the dining room which you pre-load with credit via an online portal.

 

Support

All University halls of residence have their own wardennial team, who live within the hall and are trained and available to support students in a range of matters – from advice on academic matters, through to first aid. New students will meet their warden and team of assistant wardens during their moving in weekend.
