St Salvator’s Hall and Gannochy House

St Salvator’s Hall, affectionately known by its residents as ‘Sallies’, is a traditional hall of residence situated in a central, but quiet, location next to the Quadrangle. Gannochy House is a more modern annexe of St Salvator’s Hall and has all the old traditions of Sallies along with the modern feel.

Hall information

St Salvator’s Hall is a catered standard hall of residence. Rooms are situated along corridors, and each corridor contains a number of showers and bathrooms. There are also shared kitchen facilities located throughout the residence for students to make their own light snacks.

The majority of rooms are single bedrooms, but there are 63 shared bedrooms for undergraduates to choose from as well. Find out about sharing at St Andrews. All beds are single size.

For undergraduate students, St Salvator’s Hall has:

  • 62 single standard rooms in the main building; 85 in the annexe
  • 63 shared standard rooms in the main building.

St Salvator’s Hall is located between The Scores and North Street, and is adjacent to St Salvator’s Quadrangle. The hall is very close to St Andrews castle and the beach below, Castle Sands, and offers great views of the North Sea. It is also within only a few minutes’ walk to several Arts buildings and the centre of town.

What is St Salvator's Hall like?

Sallies values its tight-knit community and long-standing traditions. One of these traditions is the High Table, where every Thursday a small group of students are selected to attend a formal dinner with a prominent member of the community or academic staff. Everyone gets a chance to sit at High Table throughout the year, and this is a great way to meet other students and see your professors in a social setting.

The hall committee runs weekly events throughout the year from quiz nights and wine tasting to the annual Sallies Hall Ball.

Gannochy House

Gannochy House is an annexe of St Salvator's Hall, and residents of both the main building and the annexe share facilities and a wardennial team. In addition, residents of Gannochy House are encouraged to participate in events and socials taking place in the main building.
