Sharing at St Andrews

The University offers a number of shared rooms across the majority of our halls of residence. Shared rooms can be catered or self-catered, and either standard or en suite.

Halls of residence with shared rooms

Most shared rooms are for two students, but there are a small number of rooms which sleep up to three people. The Accommodation team works to match students who apply for a shared room with another student with a similar lifestyle during the application process.

The following halls have shared rooms:

Shared bedroom

In shared bedrooms, you will typically have a single-size bed (approximately 3 foot wide); in Anges Blackadder Hall, shared rooms have a double (4 foot and 6 inches wide) bed. Rooms will also include the following pieces of furniture for each student:

  • desk and chair
  • desk lamp and bulb
  • shelving
  • mattress and mattress protector
  • wardrobe and drawer unit
  • waste bin and paper bin
  • telephone.

Bedrooms do not come with bedding, and students should ensure that they bring their own duvet or blankets. Find out more on the bedding information page.

You will have a key or keycard which you will use to gain access to your hall of residence and bedroom; you should keep your key or keycard with you at all times and ensure your room is locked when you go out.
